NimbaPay Goes Live: ThitsaWorks Powers Guinea's National Instant Payment System

Conakry, Guinea— July 22, 2026

ThitsaWorks is proud to celebrate the successful launch of NimbaPay, Guinea's national instant and interoperable payment system, representing a major milestone in the country's digital financial transformation.

Officially launched by the Banque Centrale de la République de Guinée (BCRG) and operated by Guinéenne de Monétique (GuiM), NimbaPay provides a modern national payment infrastructure that enables secure, real-time digital payments across participating financial institutions. The launch ceremony brought together government leaders, financial institutions, ecosystem partners, and development organizations to celebrate the beginning of a new chapter for Guinea's payment ecosystem.

A National Payment Infrastructure for an Inclusive Digital Economy

NimbaPay has been developed as Guinea's national instant and interoperable payment system, designed to connect banks, mobile money operators, fintech companies, and future payment service providers through a single interoperable platform.

Built on the open-source Mojaloop platform, the system supports Guinea's vision of strengthening financial inclusion while creating a sovereign, scalable, and secure digital payment infrastructure. The project is structured as a multi-phase implementation that introduces core payment services first, followed by government payment use cases, fraud management capabilities, and future cross-border interoperability.

"NimbaPay is a strategic lever to strengthen financial inclusion, reduce transaction costs, secure payments, protect users and prepare the next steps of our digital transformation."Dr. Karamo KABAGovernor, Banque Centrale de la République de Guinée (BCRG)

"Our ambition is clear: to ensure that every Guinean can send, receive and pay instantly, regardless of their financial institution. Because interoperability is not just about technology. It is a question of equity, efficiency, development and sovereignty." Aly Badara BERETE, Managing Director of GuiM

At launch, the platform enables:

  • Person-to-Person (P2P) payments

  • Person-to-Merchant (P2M) payments

The first cohort of participating financial institutions includes:

  • Ecobank Guinée

  • Big Bank

  • UBA Guinée

  • PayCard

  • Orange Finances Mobiles Guinée

  • Kulu

  • Cofina Guinée

Future phases will expand the ecosystem with:

  • Government-to-Person (G2P)

  • Person-to-Government (P2G)

  • Enhanced fraud management

  • Cross-border payment capabilities

Strengthening Financial Inclusion

The introduction of NimbaPay represents an important step toward expanding access to digital financial services across Guinea.

By enabling interoperability between financial institutions, the platform allows individuals and businesses to transfer funds instantly regardless of their service provider, reducing friction, improving efficiency, and creating new opportunities for digital commerce. The initiative also supports Guinea's broader objectives of accelerating financial inclusion, improving payment efficiency, reducing transaction costs, strengthening payment security, and building long-term digital public infrastructure.

Collaboration Across the Ecosystem

The successful implementation of NimbaPay reflects close collaboration among public and private sector stakeholders. The project is led by the Banque Centrale de la République de Guinée (BCRG), with GuiM serving as the national switch operator. ThitsaWorks was appointed as the System Integrator, responsible for delivering and deploying the Mojaloop-based payment platform, supporting system integration, onboarding participating financial service providers, and providing knowledge transfer to support long-term operational sustainability.

The initiative has also benefited from the support of AfricaNenda Foundation, PATH, and the Mojaloop Foundation, whose collaboration has contributed to advancing interoperable digital payments across Africa.

ThitsaWorks' Contribution

As the System Integrator, ThitsaWorks worked closely with BCRG, GuiM, participating financial institutions, and ecosystem partners throughout the implementation. During the implementation, ThitsaWorks contributed across technical, operational, business, and ecosystem workstreams, including

  • deployment of the Mojaloop-based payment hub,

  • system integration and technical implementation,

  • onboarding and testing with participating financial institutions,

  • governance and operational support,

  • knowledge transfer and capacity building,

  • development of business and operational frameworks,

  • communications and go-to-market support.

Nyi Nyein Aye, Founder and CEO of ThitsaWorks, said: “We are proud to have served as the System Integrator for Guinea's national instant payment system. This launch demonstrates what can be achieved through strong collaboration between BCRG, GuiM, participating financial institutions, and ecosystem partners. NimbaPay establishes a strong foundation for inclusive digital payments today while enabling future innovations such as government payments, enhanced fraud management, and cross-border interoperability."

The project follows ThitsaWorks' structured delivery methodology, combining technical implementation with business, governance, operational readiness, and ecosystem coordination to support long-term sustainability.

Looking Ahead

The launch of NimbaPay marks the beginning of Guinea's journey toward a fully interoperable digital payment ecosystem. Future implementation phases will continue expanding the platform by introducing additional participating financial institutions, government payment services, enhanced fraud management capabilities, and cross-border interoperability, supporting Guinea's long-term digital transformation strategy. As adoption grows, NimbaPay is expected to become a foundational component of Guinea's digital economy, enabling secure, inclusive, and efficient financial services for individuals, businesses, and government alike.
