  • ThitsaWorks was Awarded the MAS-FSTI Proof of Concept Grant for Inclusive Cross-Border Remittances

Singapore, 4 November 2022 ThitsaWorks, in partnership with INFITX (previously ModusBox) and Visa, was awarded the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s Financial Sector Technology and Innovation (FSTI) Proof of Concept (POC) grant on 29-June-2022. The FSTI POC grant supports the experimentation, development, and dissemination of nascent innovative technologies in the financial services sector. While many remittance options exist for overseas migrant workers in Singapore, options to reach rural areas where many workers’ families live are complicated, expensive, and slow. Additionally, friends and family who only have accounts with MFIs and rural banks cannot receive direct payments. Together with Rapyd and Lucy, ThitsaWorks, INFITX, and Visa have introduced the Inclusive Cross-Border Remittances Project to make remittances for Singapore-to-Philippines corridor more affordable and efficient. The project aims to connect small financial institutions to real-time payment networks to enable fast, convenient, and ubiquitous cross-border remittances. Our solution couples an inclusive RTP network, which creates the foundation for faster payments, with an alias resolution service to facilitate transmission. In this regard, ThitsaWorks, INFITX, and Visa have started a proof-of-concept for a Visa Direct-Mojaloop solution connected to MFIs and rural banks on a new inclusive subnational network: i2i (by UBX) in the Philippines. The POC is initially established between Singapore and the Philippines but is replicable to any receiving country with an RTP network and open banking frameworks. Mr. Nyi Nyein Aye, CEO and Co-founder of ThitsaWorks, said, "We are happy to be a part of the Inclusive Cross-Border Remittance Project which will make remittance cheaper and faster for the Singapore-to-Philippines corridor. I believe this project will positively affect the remittance challenges that many overseas migrant workers in Singapore undergo, which we witness daily. Our ThitsaWorks team is also very excited to work closely with prominent financial industry participants and learn from each other." Mr. Steve Haley, Director of Market Development and Partnerships from the Mojaloop Foundation, stated, "The Mojaloop Foundation is thrilled to join the Cross-Border Remittance Project. The potential of emerging economies to innovate and deploy efficient, interoperable domestic and cross-border applications shapes our mission to enhance financial inclusion worldwide. We believe this project will significantly impact achieving the goal we share with our partner organizations." Dr. Warren D. Carew, Managing Director of INFITX, stated, "We are excited to be the project's technical partner. We will focus on connecting small financial institutions to real-time payment networks to make cross-border remittances for the Singapore-to-Philippines corridor more efficient and comfortable.” Mr. Deepan Dagur, Vice President and Head of Visa Direct, Asia Pacific at Visa, commented, "Remittance is an essential financial service to the migrant community in Singapore to enable workers to stay connected to their families back home. Visa’s partnership with ThitsaWorks and regional client financial organisations will enable us to provide a convenient and secure option for migrant workers to easily send money to the Philippines.” Ms. Debbie Watkins, CEO and Co-founder of Lucy Holdings Pte. Ltd., added, "We are thrilled to collaborate with the industry-leading financial services for the Cross-Border Remittance Project. As the project steering committee, we will contribute to the project by incorporating user feedback into design discussions, and we are excited to witness the project’s impact." Mr. John Januszczak, President and CEO of UBX shared, “This is the big step forward to enable fast, convenient, and ubiquitous cross-border remittances for the benefits of the Filipino migrant workers in Singapore. I am confident that this partnership will also accelerate financial inclusion in the Philippines by giving clients across all regions of the archipelago - regardless of how rural or remote - access to secure and connected payments through any financial service provider including rural banks, cooperatives and other community based financial institutions. We see this as making a material impact on the ability for all Filipinos to participate in the digital economy.” For further information, please contact at media@thitsaworks.com. ---- About ThitsaWorks: ThitsaWorks is a FinTech that provides digital payment and data analytics solutions for financial institutions to transact, collect, manage and analyze data needed to run effective operations and manage risks. • ThitsaWorks Team Participated in DFS Lab Mojaloop PISP Virtual Bootcamp

The ThitsaWorks team led by CEO Mr. Nyi Nyein Aye, CTO Ms. Thynn Win, and DCTO Mr. Aung Thaw Aye participated in DFS Lab Mojaloop PISP Virtual Bootcamp, which was successfully conducted on September 27-30, 2022. It was an intensive workshop with the participation of 10 startups around the world. The activities were based on the Design Sprint Methodology and a process of structured brainstorming for answering critical business questions. The participating startups had a chance to design, prototype, and test ideas alongside top industry mentors and ultimately, build capacity and expertise in implementing Payment Initiation Service Providers (PISPs) using the Mojaloop platform. The Bootcamp was also a great opportunity for the Payments Initiation Service Providers (PISPs) and financial institutions that are interested in building partnerships through third-party payment initiation (3PPI) to have an in-depth look at Mojaloop, build solutions in collaboration with the Mojaloop platform developers, and prototype products and features on the Mojaloop stack. On Day 1 of the Bootcamp, with a focus on defining the problem and exploring solutions, the teams were first introduced to the concept of Design Sprints. And then, each team came up with a problem statement and started exploring solutions using sketches. Day 2 emphasis was finding solutions based on the best chance of achieving their long-term goal and then a step-by-step plan for their prototype was set up. On the last day, the teams built the prototypes for their solutions and prepared for the Demo session of their solutions. On Demo Day, ThitsaWorks team presented a prototype of our financial literacy mobile app called Re21. As we aim to empower users to manage their finances effectively through digital financial tools, our solution focused on saving with ease and low cost, motivating them to save with goals, helping to create a habit and being an application that can interact with all Digital Financial Service Providers (DFSPs). It was indeed an excellent opportunity for us for having a chance to actively participate in the Bootcamp together with the other participating startups as well as explore the next-generation payment features with a focus on third-party-payment initiation using Mojaloop technology. We are confident to contribute the experience gained from this Bootcamp to solving the critical business problem that we are facing in Myanmar as well as for the good of our ecosystem. • “Learn, Grow” with Money Management Academy Online Learning Platform

We are proud to share the press release of German Sparkassenstiftung (DSIK) about our project Money Management Academy (MMA), an online learning platform developed in partnership with DSIK. Together with ThitsaWorks, our long-term partner in Myanmar, the German Sparkassenstiftung (DSIK) has developed an online learning platform, the Money Management Academy (MMA). The online platform MMA is developed by ThitsaWorks with the support of DSIK, aiming to target anyone who is interested in learning how to manage their finances. Unlike other platforms, MMA has a strong focus on financial education. It is also a helpful tool for our goal: making financial knowledge the most accessible possible - anywhere, anytime. What could be more natural than an online learning platform, especially in this digital world? Money Management Academy is thus built up for financial training courses and is still on the way of developing content. Therefore, potential partners who are financial course providers, institutions, or education organizations and individuals are welcome. At the moment, the first courses have become available: “Money Management 101”. This course is the result of the partnership between DSIK and Thitsawork, of which DSIK plays role as content creator and consulting. This course is available in 3 languages, English, Vietnamese and Burmese. The course “Digital and Financial Literacy: The Introduction” was developed by ThitsaWorks as they are experts in the digital field. By learning proper financial behaviors and planning, people become empowered and more financially resilient. ThitsaWorks and DSIK set high standards when it comes to delivering content that is meaningful and useful in daily life. The idea is making all financial and digital literacy courses available in multiple languages, and more courses are on the way to come. You can sign up and try it out in this link. By making this online platform available, we hope to support professional development in the financial sector. Many Institutions are looking to scale up their training. However, they often face challenges when face-to-face training is not cost-effective, and scalability is usually limited. Meanwhile, setting up an online learning platform is also costly and may not be feasible for individual organizations. Money Management Academy helps overcome these challenges by allowing institutions to upload their training to MMA. If face-to-face training needs to be converted to online format affordably, ThitsaWorks can also provide support for the efficient delivery of your courses to a wider audience. MMA will serve as a learning hub for the financial training courses upskilling the capacity of every individual in the industry. You can find more information about the platform in the website: Money Management Academy Source: German Sparkassenstiftung ASIA https://sparkassenstiftung-asia.org/press/default-title?tx_news_pi1%5Baction%5D=detail&tx_news_pi1%5Bcontroller%5D=News&tx_news_pi1%5Bnews%5D=1039&cHash=1b5a02640c25eb54ab2b5efb89adfe7f

  • Re21 App - “Financial-coach” is Launched Thanks to the Partnership with ThitsaWorks

We are thrilled to share a press release issued by German Sparkassenstiftung (DSIK) about our collaboration for developing a mobile budget planner, Re21. ThitsaWorks is a long-term partner of the German Sparkassenstiftung in Myanmar. ThitsaWorks and DSIK have been working together successfully for years in the area of financial literacy - especially in relation to World Savings Day. In this context, DSIK, together with ThitsaWorks, developed a mobile app that allows users to better manage their financial resources and keep track of them. This is the idea behind the newly launched app, “Re21”. The app is finally introduced as a result of successful collaboration between the teams. ThitsaWorks was in charge of technical-related development, while German Sparkassenstiftung contributed expertise and collaboration support. Based on the well-known 21/90 rule, Re21 is more than an ordinary budget planner. It acts as a financial coach who helps people form better financial habits so that they can have better financial resilience, stick to their budget and reach their financial goals. Re21 users can track spending habits, plan how much to spend each month, and set saving goals. They can also use the coach feature to enhance their digital financial literacy by following the 21-day challenges. The App also provides information regarding the branch offices of financial institutions. For both ThitsaWorks and DSIK, the motivation for developing the app was to help users become more resilient - especially in difficult economic times. Re21 can be extended to integrate with other digital financial systems enabling cutting-edge solutions to be built within the app, such as enabling microfinance institutions to acquire new clients digitally. Re21 was launched in the first half of 2022. The use of the app is currently limited to Myanmar. The App now supports English and Burmese languages, with more languages to come in the future. For more information, please refer to the official website of the Re21. Video introduction of Re21 can be found in this link (Burmese) Source: German Sparkassenstiftung ASIA https://sparkassenstiftung-asia.org/press/default-title?tx_news_pi1%5Baction%5D=detail&tx_news_pi1%5Bcontroller%5D=News&tx_news_pi1%5Bnews%5D=1037&cHash=445dcd996121ef463239c4a3b57f087e
